1. What are you most excited about for the Boston Marathon (things you have heard about, things you might be looking forward to the most)?
This is only my second World Major Marathon, so I’m really excited to soak in the atmosphere and massive crowds. My first World Major in NYC was a struggle with some unexpected challenges, so I couldn’t fully enjoy the experience. This time at Boston, I want to push myself to run strong while staying present and just being part of such a legendary event.
2. What made you want to do the Boston Marathon/when did it come on to your radar? What have you had to go through to qualify for the Boston Marathon?
I shifted my focus from ultramarathons to marathons in the summer of 2023, and that’s when I noticed my times dropping fast. Joining Rogue Racers that year was a game-changer. My teammates introduced me to the World Major Marathons and hyped up Boston as the ultimate goal. They pushed me to chase a qualifying time. For the 2023 Columbus Marathon, I needed to shave at least 5 minutes off my PR. With a solid training block and the support of Rogue, I ran a 2:56, 14 minutes faster than my previous best, and I locked in my Boston spot.
3. Who is coming with you to the Boston Marathon (family/friends)?
My wife, Katie, and our kids, Clare and Joe. They all came with me to NYC in November and loved the whole experience, so they’re all in for Boston too! My mom and stepdad are joining us as well. We’ve booked a hotel in the suburbs for five nights, and we’re excited to explore Boston’s history together while we’re there.
4. What does running the Boston Marathon mean to you?
To me, Boston is the pinnacle of marathon racing. It’s like the Super Bowl of our sport. Unlike other World Majors, there’s no lottery. You have to earn your spot with a qualifying time. That means all 30,000+ runners on April 21st are there because they’re fast, dedicated, and love running as much as I do. It’s a rare chance to race alongside the world’s best, and I’m thrilled for both the competition and the camaraderie.
5. What number marathon is this for you?
This will be my 10th marathon, which feels extra special since it’s Boston. I actually had to double-check the count and can’t believe that Boston is my 10th marathon! I’ve also run 11 ultramarathons, so I’ve got a solid mix of endurance experience under my belt.
